Named one of "11 Books that Will Make You Smarter about Politics" by Business Insider "If you read no other political book this year, read THE POPULIST EXPLOSION by John B. Judis, which brilliantly sets out the connection to present circumstances." -- Mark Mardell, BBC "John B. Judis's The Populist Explosion was published just before Mr. Trump's election, but that improbable victory only confirms the book's thesis that Western democracies are in some ways failing to represent their citizens....Mr. Judis's analysis is sharp and engaging." - Barton Swaim, The Wall Street Journal * I really enjoyed this book. It was also quite a worrying read. Jon Judis describes the  development of populism from about the 1800s in the US to present day, and similarly discusses  its history in Europe. It did get me worried, because the parallels between Europen in the 1930s  and what is currently going on is, well, quite disturbing. As such, my recommendation is that  you read it, and, when finished, give it to you friends and family to read. It’s quite important!  It is quite a short book, which helps as well, but of course does only give you you an  introductory view of the topic. One limitation though, and this is just a fact rather than a  criticism, i that the book was written in 2016. At that time, even the author could not envision  that Donald Trump could actually win....*sigh*
